5 Tips to Create a Morning Routine

In this post, I will give you 5 tips to create a morning routine. I absolutely love my mornings! It is by far my favorite time of the day. I have not always been a morning person. But, after creating a morning routine it all changed.

I started my morning routine about 5 years ago. So, I will never go back to the days where I would get up whenever I would feel like it. Where I would just wing it. I would feel like my morning would fly by with nothing accomplished. The day would go by and I would wonder where it went. Then later I would have guilt that I did not get anything done that I had wanted to get done.

Creating a a morning routine will give you an amazing time to focus on yourself physically, mentally and spiritually.

It also helps you feel more productive in the morning and sets up your day for success.

So, read on for the 5 tips to create a morning routine. One that you will absolutely LOVE!!

1. Let Go Of Perfection

The best way to sabotage your efforts or to make you not do anything at all is perfection. Have you heard of perfection paralysis? Perfection can absolutely paralyze you. To the point where you just give up or that you get totally frustrated. So, let go of it. Realize life happens. You will have days where you may get up late or you have something that interferes with your morning. Remember there is always tomorrow to start again. You may also need to change your routine several times to come up with what works for you. Be realistic about it. Don’t try to cram too many things into your morning routine. You want to ENJOY IT!

2. Plan the Night Before

Set yourself up the night before, so your morning routine can be successful. Create an evening routine for yourself. Creating an evening routine can help prepare us mentally and physically for a productive morning routine. Here are some of the things I include in the evening routine that specifically sets me up for the morning.

  • Do a quick clean-up of all main living areas. – There is nothing better than waking up to a relatively clean house.
  • Have my coffee pot ready to go. – All I need to do is push a button to start my coffee.
  • Pick out my clothes and have them ready to go.- One less thing for me to think about in the morning.
  • Plan your day the night before.- This link includes my favorite planner. I do a quick to-do list and plan appointments and school work for the kids. I do a large part of my planning Saturday evening.
  • Brush your teeth and wash your face. – A great habit for everyone!
  • Read a book when you are going to sleep.- Reading a book helps you to have a much better night’s sleep. Looking at your phone or a TV before bed can actually mess with your body’s ability to create melatonin. Making it harder for you to fall asleep.
  • Go to bed early and set your alarm.- It is recommended that adults get 7-8 hours of sleep a night. So plan your bedtime accordingly.

Here are a few other things you could include in your evening routine. If your kids go to school away from home or you work outside of the home, plan on making your lunches the night before. Also, make sure you have homework ready to go and anything else they may need for school.

3. Create your Morning Routine

Now that you have let go of perfection and set yourself up for success with your evening routine. It is now time to create a morning routine you will love. First, sit down in a quiet place with no distractions and an amazing cup of coffee or tea. Next, make a list of everything that you would like to accomplish in the morning. After making the list ask yourself a few questions. How much time will I need to accomplish all of these? Is this list realistic? What time do I need to get up? After asking yourself these questions decide what time you will get up and if you will keep everything on your list.

Now that you have that all done you can create your morning routine. Write it out and keep it somewhere that you can see it every day.

Here is an example of my morning routine. But remember make it a routine that you will LOVE! This is your routine!

  • Wake up and don’t hit the snooze button.
  • Make your bed.- This starts your day off right.
  • Drink water.- While we sleep we become dehydrated, so you need to hydrate for the day ahead.
  • Start the coffee pot.
  • Start a load of laundry.- A load a day will help you to not have mountains of laundry to do.
  • Get dressed in my workout clothes.
  • Read the Bible and pray.- Start your day filled with joy!
  • Feed my dogs.
  • Make my morning smoothie. – This is a great way to get fruits and vegetables.
  • Unload dishwasher.
  • Work out or go for a walk.- Exercising daily has many benefits.
  • Take a shower
  • Do my skincare routine and get completely ready for the day.

This can give you an idea of some things you can add to make your morning routine. Having a routine to follow may be hard at first but in no time it will become a habit. You will be so happy that you created this in your life.

Create a good habit of going to bed early and waking up early

4. Be Consistent With The Time you go to Bed and Wakeup.

Being consistent with the time you go to bed and wake up is so important. Try to stick with the same times 7 days a week. Your body will get used to this and will help make getting up so much easier. After creating your morning routine, figure out how much time you will need to accomplish it. Then decide how early you will need to get up. Equally important is your bedtime. Be sure to give yourself 7-8 hours of sleep every night. Make a bedtime so that you can accomplish this. Having a consistent time to go to bed and wake up is key in making your morning routine a success.

5. Implement It

This is the most tip. Now is the time to actually do it. Put it into action. Don’t wait to start today. Most importantly, remember it doesn’t have to be perfect. If it is easier to take baby steps and start off with a few things in your morning routine. Then start with only a few. Whatever makes you start, is great! You want to set yourself up for success.

NOW GO AHEAD AND DO THIS! ENJOY IT! LOVE IT!

Much of my list is similar to yours except I do the family laundry during my evening routine.
