6 Simple Ingredients

Origins of Teriyaki Sauce

Teriyaki sauce can be traced back to Japanese immigrants who settled in Hawaii. They created a marinade that used local products like pineapple juice blended with soy sauce. Teriyaki Chicken is a popular dish on menus in Japanese restaurants in the United States. But, in Japan, it is not a popular item on the menu. That is because it is more of an American tradition rather than a Japanese one.

What makes my healthy chicken teriyaki in the crockpot different? I use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. Coconut aminos is similar in color, consistency, and taste to soy sauce. It is soy-, wheat-, and gluten-free making it a healthier alternative to soy sauce. Perfect, for those who have food allergies. It is also lower in sodium.

In the last 20 minutes of cooking add 1 can of chunked pineapple. All the pineapple needs to be is warmed up. This adds so much flavor to your recipe. This is my favorite part. Enjoy!
