Day 6: Draw Near to God

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” James 4:8

There is something beautiful about having a place where you meet with God.

A place where you can close the door, quiet the noise, put down the distractions, and simply be with Him.

The Bible calls this the secret place.

Jesus said:

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. – Matthew 6:6

And Psalm 91:1 says:

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

The secret place isn’t necessarily a physical place.

It is a place of relationship.

It is where we come away from everything else and draw near to God.

My Secret Place

There was a season in my life when I needed to know God – not just know about Him.

I wanted a real relationship with Him.

So I started going into my walk-in closet.

It wasn’t fancy.

And it wasn’t a special prayer room.

It was simply a quiet place where I could close the door and spend time with God.

I would go there to pray.

To talk to Him.

Cry.

Listen.

To feel His presence.

And to bring Him the things I didn’t know what to do with.

And somewhere in those quiet moments, something began to change.

I began to know Him.

Not just know Scripture.

Not just know what other people said about God.

But to experience Him as my Father, my comforter, my helper, and the One I could come to with everything.

That closet became a place where my relationship with God grew.

And that’s what I want for you.

Not another thing on your to-do list.

Not another religious obligation.

A relationship.

What Happens When We Draw Near?

James 4:8 gives us such a beautiful promise:

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”

Think about that.

When you turn toward God, He meets you there.

Making room for Him, you begin to recognize His presence.

When you spend time with Him, you begin to know His voice.

Bring Him your heart; He begins to transform you from the inside out.

A beautiful life doesn’t come from simply changing what’s around us.

It begins with who we are becoming on the inside.

And we cannot become the woman God created us to be without spending time with the One who created us.

Create Your Secret Place

Your secret place might be a closet.

It might be your bedroom chair.

Your front porch.

Your kitchen table before everyone wakes up.

A walk outside.

It doesn’t have to look a certain way.

It just needs to be a place where you intentionally meet with God.

And if you don’t have this habit yet, don’t worry.

You don’t have to start with an hour.

Start with 10 minutes.

Put your phone away.

Open your Bible.

Take a few deep breaths.

Talk to God.

Thank Him.

Tell Him what is on your heart.

Sit quietly for a moment.

And listen.

You are not trying to check something off your list.

You are learning to be with God.

Today’s Challenge: Create a Morning Prayer Habit

Tomorrow morning, before you reach for your phone, give your first few minutes to God.

Find your secret place.

Set aside 10–15 minutes.

Then simply begin:

“Good morning, Lord. I’m here. I want to spend time with You.”

You can use this simple rhythm:

Be still.
Take a few quiet moments.

Give thanks.
Thank God for three things.

Pray.
Tell Him what is on your heart and what you need today.

Read.
Spend a few minutes in His Word.

Listen.
Ask, “Lord, what do You want me to know today?”

Then write down anything that comes to your heart.

And don’t worry if you don’t feel anything dramatic.

The goal isn’t an experience. The goal is relationship.

Keep showing up.

Drawing near.

And making room for Him.

Over time, a habit can become a lifestyle, and a lifestyle can become a relationship that changes your life.

A Prayer for Today

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you that we can have a true relationship with You. I want to know You more. Teach me to seek You in the secret place. Thank you for helping me slow down, turn away from distractions, and make room for You. Give me a desire to spend time with You not because I have to, but because I want to know You. Thank you for meeting me in those quiet moments. Teach me to hear Your voice and recognize Your presence. Thank you that our relationship has become the foundation of every other area of my life. In Jesus name, Amen.

A beautiful life isn’t built by doing more.

Sometimes it begins by coming away from everything else and sitting with the One who loves you most.

Draw near to God.

He promises to draw near to you.

Tomorrow, we’ll continue this journey of restoring a beautiful life—one small step at a time.

Blessings!

Danelle
