Day 15: Nourish Your Body

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV

Have you ever reached the end of a busy day and realized you’ve spent so much time taking care of everything else that you’ve barely thought about taking care of yourself?

Maybe you skipped breakfast, grabbed whatever was convenient for lunch, forgot to drink enough water, or kept pushing through your exhaustion because there was always one more thing to do.

I think many of us know what it’s like to put our own needs at the bottom of the list.

We want to care for our families, serve others, keep our homes running, and faithfully carry the responsibilities God has given us. But in the middle of all that, we can forget that our bodies need nourishment, too.

Yesterday, we talked about caring for the body God gave us. Today, let’s take the next step and consider how our small daily choices can support our health.

Nourishment Is About More Than Food

When we hear the word nourishment, we often think about what we eat. Food certainly matters, but caring for ourselves involves more than what’s on our plates.

Our bodies need nourishing food, adequate hydration, movement, and rest. We also need moments to slow down and tend to our emotional and spiritual well-being.

Think about how different you feel after a night of restful sleep compared with a night when you’ve barely slept. Or how refreshing it can be to step outside, breathe some fresh air, and take a walk after spending hours indoors.

These simple things may not seem significant on their own, but together they support our overall well-being.

We don’t need an elaborate wellness routine to start caring for ourselves. We can start by noticing what our bodies need and making thoughtful choices to meet those needs.

Caring for our health isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about being faithful with the small things we can do today.

Make Food an Act of Care, Not a Source of Guilt

Food can become a complicated subject. We hear so many different opinions about what we should eat, what we should avoid, and which plan will finally help us reach our goals.

Sometimes, we become so focused on restrictions or changing our appearance that we lose sight of something important: food is meant to nourish us.

Instead of approaching every meal with guilt or frustration, what if we began asking a different question?

How can I nourish my body with the choices available to me today?

That might mean preparing a meal with protein, vegetables, healthy fats, and other foods that help you feel satisfied and energized. It might mean planning ahead so you’re not constantly scrambling to figure out what to eat. Or it might simply mean taking time to sit down and enjoy a meal instead of rushing from one task to another.

You don’t need a perfect meal plan or an expensive collection of wellness products to begin.

Start with simple, balanced choices that work for your body, your circumstances, and your budget.

And remember, one meal doesn’t define your health. You can make another nourishing choice next time.

Don’t Forget the Simple Things

Sometimes, we search for complicated answers when the next helpful step is surprisingly simple.

Have you had enough water today?

Have you moved your body in a way that feels appropriate for you?

Have you allowed yourself enough time to rest?

Have you spent a few quiet moments with God instead of rushing straight into the day’s demands?

These questions aren’t meant to add to your checklist or make you feel guilty. They’re invitations to pay attention to yourself with kindness.

If you’ve been sitting for hours, perhaps a short walk would feel good. If you’ve been running on empty, maybe you need to make rest a priority. If your days have felt rushed, perhaps preparing tomorrow’s meals or setting out what you need tonight could help you feel less overwhelmed.

Small changes can be easier to maintain when we connect them to routines we already have.

You might drink a glass of water when you wake up, take a short walk after lunch, or prepare a simple breakfast before going to bed.

Choose habits that support your life rather than creating a routine that feels impossible to sustain.

Honor God in the Choices No One Else Sees

First Corinthians 10:31 reminds us that even ordinary things, including eating and drinking, can be done for God’s glory.

I love that this verse brings our everyday lives into our relationship with Him. Our walk with God isn’t limited to our prayer time, Bible reading, or moments when we’re serving others.

He is present in the ordinary parts of our days, too.

We can invite Him into the decisions we make about our health. We can ask for wisdom, practice gratitude for the food available to us, and learn to treat ourselves with patience rather than criticism.

Our goal is not to earn God’s love through our habits. His love is already there.

Instead, we can respond to His love by caring for ourselves with greater intention.

Your Day 15 Challenge

Today, choose one nourishing habit you can practice.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Prepare one simple, balanced meal instead of relying on whatever is easiest at the last minute.
  • Keep water nearby and drink regularly throughout the day.
  • Take a 10–15 minute walk, if appropriate for your health and ability.
  • Plan tomorrow’s breakfast or lunch so you begin the day with less stress.
  • Set a reasonable bedtime and give yourself permission to rest.
  • Pause before a meal to thank God for His provision.

Choose one habit that feels manageable for you right now.

Then ask yourself:

What is one small change I could continue practicing this week?

You don’t need to change your entire lifestyle today. You’re simply beginning to build a pattern of caring for yourself with intention.

A Prayer for Today

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for providing for my needs and giving me a body to care for. Thank you for helping me make wise choices about the food I eat, the movement I enjoy, and the rest I need. Show me where I have been neglecting myself, and help me replace guilt and frustration with gratitude and grace. Give me wisdom to recognize what supports my well-being and the patience to develop healthy habits over time. Thank you for reminding me that I am loved by You, regardless of how far along I am in my health journey. Help me honor You in the ordinary choices of my day.

In Jesus name, Amen.

One Small Step Toward a Beautiful Life

You don’t have to wait for Monday, the start of a new month, or perfect circumstances to care for yourself.

You can start with your very next choice.

Drink the water. Prepare the meal. Take the walk. Get the rest. Thank God for the opportunity to begin again.

A healthier life isn’t built in one perfect day. It’s built through small, thoughtful choices that we return to again and again.

Give yourself grace as you learn, and celebrate the progress you make along the way.

Tomorrow, we’ll continue this journey by looking at another important part of caring for ourselves: making room for rest and learning to slow down without guilt.

Blessings!

Danelle
