Day 14: Caring for the Body God Gave You
Have you ever spent so much time caring for everyone and everything around you that you forgot to take care of yourself?
Maybe you’ve spent the day cleaning your home, preparing meals, caring for your family, working, or checking off one task after another. By evening, you’re exhausted, and the things you need for your own well-being have been pushed aside again.
I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to focus on restoring all the things we want in our lives while overlooking the one person who needs care along the way: ourselves.
Over the last several days, we’ve talked about creating peace in our homes, building stronger relationships, and being more intentional with the lives God has given us. Now it’s time to focus on our health.
I want to begin with this reminder: Caring for yourself isn’t selfish. It is part of caring for the life God has entrusted to you.
Your Body Is a Gift, Not a Project to Perfect
Our bodies carry us through our everyday lives. They let us hug the people we love, serve our families, walk outside and enjoy God’s creation, pursue our calling, and experience many of the blessings we might otherwise take for granted.
Yet how often do we think about our bodies only when something isn’t working the way we want it to?
We may grow frustrated with our energy levels, our appearance, our weight, or the changes our bodies go through as we move through different seasons of life. We may compare ourselves with others or feel that we need to reach a certain goal before we can feel good about ourselves.
But God doesn’t ask us to earn our worth by looking a certain way.
Psalm 139 reminds us that we are wonderfully made. Our value isn’t determined by a number on the scale, the size of our clothes, or how much we accomplish in a day.
We can appreciate the bodies God gave us while also recognizing that they need care, nourishment, movement, and rest.
We don’t have to hate where we are today to make healthier choices for tomorrow.
We can start from gratitude rather than criticism. We can care for ourselves because our lives matter, not because we believe we’re somehow less valuable when we’re tired, struggling, or working toward change.
Small Choices Can Make a Difference
When we think about improving our health, it’s easy to feel as though we need to change everything at once.
We might imagine a complicated meal plan, an intense exercise routine, an entirely new schedule, or a long list of habits we need to establish.
But lasting change doesn’t have to begin with a complete overhaul of our lives.
It can begin with simple, everyday choices.
- Drinking water when we realize we’ve been forgetting to hydrate.
- Preparing a nourishing meal that helps us feel cared for.
- Taking a walk and enjoying some fresh air.
- Going to bed instead of staying up late to finish one more thing.
- Making time for movement that works for our bodies and our current season of life.
- Pausing when we’re overwhelmed and giving ourselves a moment to breathe and pray.
These choices may seem ordinary, but repeated over time, they can become meaningful habits.
And we don’t have to do them perfectly.
Some days, our routines change, our plans fall apart, or we simply don’t have the energy we expected. Those days don’t mean we’ve failed. They are part of being human.
We can begin again with grace.
Invite God Into Your Health Journey
Sometimes we treat our health as something we must manage entirely on our own. We make plans, set goals, and try harder, hoping that more discipline will finally get us where we want to be.
But what if we invited God into this part of our lives, too?
We can ask Him for wisdom in our choices, patience as we build new habits, and discernment about what our bodies need.
We can pray about what has been difficult for us, including habits we struggle to change or the discouragement we may feel about our progress.
God cares about every part of our lives. We don’t have to separate our spiritual growth from the everyday decisions that affect our well-being.
As you begin this part of our journey, I encourage you to let go of the pressure to do everything at once.
Instead, ask yourself: What is one loving, healthy choice I can make for myself today?
Not ten choices. Not a complete life transformation by tomorrow. Just one.
Your Day 14 Challenge
Today, choose one simple action that supports your well-being.
You might:
- Take a 10–15 minute walk.
- Prepare a nourishing meal.
- Drink water throughout the day.
- Set aside time to rest without feeling guilty.
- Create a simple evening routine that helps you prepare for a better night’s sleep.
Choose something realistic for your life right now.
Before you begin, take a moment to thank God for your body and the ways it serves you. Then, instead of treating your choice as another task you must complete, see it as an act of care.
At the end of the day, ask yourself:
How did I feel when I chose to care for myself today?
Remember, the goal isn’t perfection. The goal is to begin building a healthier relationship with yourself and the body God has given you.
A Prayer for Today
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for creating me and giving me this life. Forgive me for the times I’ve neglected my own well-being or treated myself harshly because I haven’t met my expectations. Thank you for helping me see myself through Your eyes and care for my body with gratitude, wisdom, and grace. Show me the small changes that would support my health, and give me the patience to build habits that serve me well. Thank you for helping me remember that my worth is found in You, not in my appearance or accomplishments. Teach me to honor You in the everyday choices I make.
In Jesus name, Amen.
One Small Step Toward a Beautiful Life
You have spent time making room for peace in your home and choosing greater connection in your relationships. Now, let’s make room for caring for yourself.
You don’t have to wait until life slows down, until everyone else is taken care of, or until you feel motivated enough to begin.
You can start right where you are.
Your health journey doesn’t have to begin with punishment, pressure, or perfection. It can begin with gratitude, one small choice, and a willingness to care for the life God has given you.
Tomorrow, we’ll continue exploring how small, intentional choices can help us build a healthier, more beautiful life with God.
Blessings!
Danelle
