If you would like an easy taco dish, try baked tacos with Bison. I love making this easy taco dish for my family, they love it and eat it so well. Perfect, for the family with picky eaters. My teen is usually a picky eater and normally eats one taco at a meal. If I am lucky! But, after making these, he ate 6!

When I make this for my family, I will make extra taco meat. So, I can have another easy dinner, lunch, or even snack later in the week. It also freezes well. If you would rather have chicken instead of bison try Shredded Mexican Chicken in the Crockpot this makes delicious tacos as well. Follow along and let’s make this recipe.

Ingredients for Baked Tacos

  • Ground Bison
  • Organic Black Beans
  • Rotel Tomatoes
  • Green Chili
  • Chili Powder
  • Cumin
  • Garlic Powder
  • Paprika
  • Onion Powder
  • Cayenne
  • Gluten-Free Taco Shells
  • Grated Cheese
  • Favorite Taco Toppings

All ingredients are wholesome and healthy for you and your family. Bison Is fairly low in fat and calories. It is also a rich source of B vitamins, iron, selenium, and zinc.

First, you will brown the bison in a skillet. After this, you add the black beans, Rotel tomatoes, green chili, and then spices. Mix well and heat. Next, which is very important, grease the baking dish. Otherwise, your tacos will become soggy. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Assemble Tacos

After greasing the baking dish, line taco shells in a glass dish. A 2-quart glass baking dish works perfectly for this. Fill each taco shell with meat and top with cheese. Put in the oven and bake for 5 to 8 minutes. Keep an eye on it so it does not overcook. Below is how it should look.

Baked Tacos with Bison

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Ground Bison
  • 1 can Organic Black Beans
  • 1 can Rotel tomatoes
  • 1 can Green chilis
  • 1 tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1 tsp Ground Cumin
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne
  • 1 pkg Gluten-free taco shells
  • 2 cups Grated cheese

Toppings

  • Onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Lettuce
  • Avocado
  • Jalapenos

Instructions

  • 1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Brown ground bison in the skillet by lightly breaking up and stirring constantly so it does not get overdone.
    2. Next add spices, black beans, Rotel tomatoes, and green chilies. Mix all ingredients well in the skillet and warm.
    3. Lightly spray a baking dish with your favorite non-stick spray. Place taco shells in the dish.
    4. Fill Each taco shell with filling. Next top with grated cheese.
    5. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 5-8 minutes, until cheese, is melted.
    6. Top each taco with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!

  1. These look amazing! I have never tried bison in a taco but it sounds delicious! I love the idea of baking them as well. I usually fry our shells which isn’t as healthy but I love the crunch. This way seems a lot easier and healthier!

  2. I have never tried baked tacos before, but after seeing your recipe I definitely want to give them a try. Do you think a ceramic baking dish would work just as well as a glass one? Unfortunately, my only glass baking dish is huge and would make far too many tacos for just my husband and I!

    • Yes, I think a ceramic dish would work just fine! Be sure to grease the dish with whatever you like to use. I have used butter and coconut oil. If you don’t, they will get soggy. Also, bake for about 5 minutes. I hope you and your husband enjoy them. Thank you for your comment!!
