Day 8: Create a Place of Peace in Your Home

“My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” Isaiah 32:18

Yesterday, we talked about bringing order into our homes and how God showed me that the clutter in my bedroom reflected the disorder I was experiencing in my mind.

We talked about taking that first step instead of becoming overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done.

Today, I want to take that a little further.

Because what if creating a peaceful home isn’t just about decluttering? What if it’s also about creating simple habits that help us maintain that peace?

I don’t know about you, but I love the feeling of walking into a room that has been picked up, the counters are clear, and things are in their place. It feels like I can breathe a little easier.

But life happens. We use things, leave things out, move from one activity to another, and before we know it, the clutter starts creeping back in.

That’s why I want us to focus on two things today: continuing the work we’ve started and creating a simple evening reset.

Continue What You Started

Yesterday, you chose one small area of your home and spent time bringing order to it.

Today, let’s continue that work.

I want you to build on the progress you made yesterday by setting aside 30 minutes to declutter and organize.

You don’t have to finish an entire room. You don’t have to pull everything out of your closets or turn your home upside down.

Simply choose an area and keep going.

Maybe you want to finish the drawer you started.

Or you want to move to another small area in your bedroom.

Maybe you want to tackle a kitchen counter or a pile that has been sitting around for too long.

The goal is to make progress without creating more overwhelm.

As you work, remember that you’re not just moving things from one place to another. You’re deciding what belongs in your home and what you can release.

You’re creating space for the things that matter.

And you’re learning that you can make changes in your life without having to do everything at once.

The Secret to a More Peaceful Morning Starts the Night Before

Have you ever woken up already feeling behind?

You walk into the kitchen and see yesterday’s dishes. The counters are cluttered. Things are scattered around the house, and before your day has even begun, you feel like you have a list of things to catch up on.

I’ve been thinking about how much our evenings can affect our mornings.

What if we stopped expecting ourselves to wake up and immediately tackle yesterday’s mess?

What if we spent a few minutes in the evening preparing our homes for the next day?

A simple evening reset can make such a difference.

I’m not talking about spending an hour cleaning before bed when you’re already tired. I’m talking about creating a small, manageable habit that helps you close out the day and prepare for tomorrow.

Imagine walking into your kitchen in the morning and finding the counters cleared, the dishes taken care of, and things put back where they belong.

It doesn’t mean your entire house is perfect.

It simply means you’ve given yourself a fresh starting point.

Sometimes a more peaceful morning begins with a few intentional minutes the night before.

Create Your Evening Reset

Here’s a simple routine you can try tonight.

1. Reset the kitchen.

Put away food, load the dishwasher or wash the dishes, and wipe down the counters. You don’t have to deep-clean anything. Just give yourself a fresh start for tomorrow.

2. Put things back where they belong.

Walk through the main living areas and return misplaced items to their homes. Gather shoes, blankets, cups, and anything else that has been left out.

3. Prepare for tomorrow.

Think about what would make your morning easier. Set out what you need, clear the table, or prepare a space where you can spend time with God before the day gets busy.

4. Take a moment to be thankful.

Before you go to bed, look around and appreciate what you’ve done. Instead of focusing on everything that still needs attention, thank God for the little bit of peace you’ve created.

You can make this a 10–15-minute routine. Adjust it to fit your family and your season of life.

And remember, your evening reset doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

Find what works for you and make it your own.

It’s About More Than a Clean House

As we work through this journey, I want us to remember that the goal isn’t simply to have a clean home.

It’s to create a home that supports the life we’re trying to build.

A home where we can rest instead of constantly feeling behind.

Where we have space to connect with our families.

A home where we can spend time with God without always thinking about the next thing that needs to be done.

And a home where we can enjoy the life we’re living instead of feeling like we’re always trying to catch up.

We won’t get it right every day. There will be busy evenings, unexpected interruptions, and days when we’re simply too tired to do much at all.

That’s okay.

This isn’t about adding another burden to your life.

It’s about finding a rhythm that serves you and your family.

Some nights, your reset might take five minutes. Other nights, you might need a little longer.

Give yourself grace and begin again the next day.

Today’s Challenge: Declutter, Then Reset

Today, I want you to practice two simple habits.

First, continue your decluttering for 30 minutes.

Choose an area of your home and keep working toward creating more order. When your time is up, take a moment to appreciate your progress.

Second, try an evening reset tonight.

Set aside 10–15 minutes before bed to put things away, reset your kitchen, and prepare one thing that will make tomorrow morning easier.

Then ask yourself:

  • How does my home feel after taking these small steps?
  • What could I do tonight that would help me have a more peaceful morning?
  • What simple evening habit would make the biggest difference for my family?

You don’t need to change your entire routine tonight. Just choose one or two things you can realistically repeat.

Over time, those small habits can become part of the rhythm of your home.

A Prayer for Today

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for my home and the life You’ve given me. Help me create rhythms that bring more peace and order to my days. Show me how to use my time wisely without becoming overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done. Help me be faithful with the small things and give myself grace when life doesn’t go according to plan. May my home be a place where my family can rest, connect, and experience Your goodness.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let’s Keep Making Room for Peace

Yesterday, we began bringing order to our homes.

Today, we’re continuing that work and learning how a few simple habits can help us maintain the peace we’re creating.

You don’t need a perfect home.

You need rhythms that work for your life.

Start with your 30 minutes of decluttering. Try your evening reset. See how it feels to wake up tomorrow with a little more order around you.

Let’s stop trying to do everything at once and start creating habits that help us live the beautiful life we’re building—one small step at a time.

Blessings!

Danelle
