Day 7: Bring Your Home Into Order

“But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.” 1 Corinthians 14:40

For the first six days of our 30 Days to a Beautiful Life, we’ve been focusing on our hearts.

We’ve talked about gratitude, renewing our minds, being still, surrendering what we’re carrying, remembering who we are in Christ, and drawing near to God.

We’ve been working on what is happening inside of us.

Now, we’re going to turn our attention to something we all live with every day:

Our homes.

For the next week, we’re going to talk about creating more peace, order, and beauty in the place where we live.

And I’m going to be honest with you…

This is something God has had to teach me.

The Day God Showed Me My Clutter

I’ve shared a little bit of this before, but I want to tell you more about it because it was such a powerful moment for me.

There was a time when I felt overwhelmed in my life.

My mind felt cluttered.

I had so many things going through my head—things I needed to do, things I was worried about, things I was trying to figure out, things I was carrying.

And one day, God had me stand in the corner of my bedroom.

He simply said, ” Look around, really look.”

“What do you see?”

Clutter.

My room was messy and disorganized.

There were things everywhere.

And as I stood there looking at it, I felt like God was showing me something:

“This is what is happening in your mind.”

My physical surroundings were reflecting something that was happening inside of me.

There was disorder.

Disorganization.

There were too many things competing for my attention.

And God began to show me that bringing some order to my home could help me begin bringing order to my mind.

That moment has stayed with me.

Because sometimes we don’t realize how much our surroundings are affecting us until we stop and really look.

Have You Ever Felt This Way?

Maybe you’ve walked into your home after a long day and immediately felt overwhelmed.

Maybe you look around and think:

Where do I even begin?

There is so much to do.

I’ll never get this all done.

Or maybe there’s a room you’ve been avoiding because it feels like too much.

I’ve been there.

And what I’ve learned is that we don’t have to fix everything at once.

We don’t have to wake up tomorrow and suddenly have a perfectly organized home.

We can start with one small thing.

That’s really what this entire 30-day journey is about.

Small steps that lead to a beautiful life.

Your Home Can Affect Your Mind

I’m not saying that a messy house means something is wrong with you.

Life happens.

Kids make messes.

Laundry piles up.

Dishes need to be washed.

Things get busy.

There are seasons when simply getting through the day is enough.

So please don’t read this as another reason to feel guilty.

Instead, I want you to see your home as an opportunity.

An opportunity to create a little more peace.

A little more order.

A little more breathing room.

Sometimes when we clear a little space around us, we feel like we can breathe a little deeper inside too.

And sometimes, while we’re cleaning the physical clutter, God begins showing us the emotional and mental clutter we’ve been carrying.

What Is Your Home Saying to You?

Today, I want you to walk through your home slowly.

Don’t criticize it.

Don’t judge yourself.

Just look.

Is there a space that immediately makes you feel stressed?

Is there a pile you’ve been walking around for weeks?

A drawer you don’t want to open?

A closet that feels overwhelming?

Or a room that doesn’t feel peaceful?

Ask God:

“Lord, what are You showing me?”

Maybe He’s showing you something you need to organize.

Possibly He’s showing you something you need to let go of.

Or He’s reminding you that you don’t have to carry everything.

Maybe He’s simply inviting you to create a little more peace in your surroundings.

Today’s Challenge: Just One Small Space

I want to make this really simple.

Don’t clean your whole house.

Choose one small space.

Set a timer for 30 minutes.

That’s it.

Maybe it’s your nightstand.

One kitchen counter.

One drawer.

Maybe one corner of your bedroom.

Or it’s the pile you’ve been stepping over for three weeks.

Whatever it is, start there.

As you work, talk to God.

Ask Him:

“What needs to stay?”

“What can I let go of?”

“ And what am I holding onto that I don’t need anymore?”

And then begin.

You don’t need to finish everything.

You just need to take one step.

When your 30 minutes are over, stop and look at what you accomplished.

It may seem small.

But remember:

Small doesn’t mean insignificant.

Small steps repeated over time can change a life.

This Week, We’re Making Room

For the next several days, we’re going to focus on our homes.

We’re going to talk about decluttering without becoming overwhelmed.

Talk about letting go of things we don’t need.

To create peaceful spaces.

Talk about making our homes places of connection.

And we’re going to remind ourselves that beauty doesn’t have to be expensive.

Because your home doesn’t need to be perfect to be beautiful.

It needs to be a place where you can live.

A place where you can rest.

Where you can gather with the people you love.

You can make memories.

A place where you can pray.

Where you can experience God’s goodness in the ordinary moments of life.

And maybe, just maybe, as we begin restoring our homes, God will continue restoring something inside of us too.

A Prayer for Your Home

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the home You’ve given me. Help me see it with fresh eyes. Show me where I need to bring order and where I need to let go. Thank You for helping me not to become overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done. Teach me to take one small step at a time. And as I create more order and peace around me, bring more order and peace within me. Thank you that my home becomes a place of love, rest, connection, and Your presence.

In Jesus name, Amen.

I’ve learned that sometimes restoration begins in the most ordinary places.

For me, it started in the corner of my bedroom.

Maybe for you, it starts in a drawer today.

Don’t underestimate the little things.

One small space.
Or a small step.

Let’s begin restoring our homes—and see what God wants to restore in us along the way.

Blessings to you!

Danelle

  1. Oh yes, I have absolutely felt this way. We just did a huge purging in our home – we got rid of so much stuff that has been sitting around.

Thank you for these wonderful words and wisdom.
