What makes the best natural homemade cleaners better than store-bought cleaners? First of all, because they are safer, for both our indoor air quality and to use around young children and pets. What makes them safer? Best natural homemade cleaners don’t contain the toxins that store-bought cleaners have. Some of the toxic ingredients that you need to watch out for in store-bought cleaners are listed below:
Toxic Ingredients:
- Phthalates – Found in many fragranced household products. The health risks they are known for are endocrine disruptors.
- 2- Butoxyethanol- Found in Window cleaner and multipurpose cleaners. The health risks of this ingredient can be a sore throat when inhaled and liver or kidney damage.
- Ammonia- Found in many household cleaners. Ammonia is a powerful irritant and can cause lung and breathing issues. Also when ammonia is mixed with bleach it becomes a poisonous gas.
- Chlorine- Found in scouring powders, toilet bowl cleaners, and mold removers. Chlorine can irritate through breathing and skin irritation. It may cause thyroid disruption.
- Sodium Hydroxide- Found in Oven cleaners and drain cleaners. This is also known as lye. It can severely burn your eyes and your skin. It can also cause a sore throat.
Homemade household cleaners are also inexpensive to make and in my experience clean as well if not better than your store- bought cleaners. So, they are also very quick and easy to make. In this post I will share with you my favorite homemade cleaners that I use in my home.
